With right-handed pitcher Gerrit Cole signing the largest deal for a pitcher in Major League Baseball history, let’s take a look at some Cole prop bets for the New York Yankees’ new $324 million-dollar man.

With the Cole signing, the Yankees are the overwhelming favorite to win the American League East at -222 on PointsBet.

All Cole prop bets are based on him staying healthy. If Cole misses significant time, he likely won’t achieve the over on any of these prop bets. With that said, Cole has been extremely durable in his career, making a combined 151 starts over the last five seasons.

Gerrit Cole prop bets: over/under 16.5 regular season wins (-110)

You don’t have to be an elite starting pitcher to win a lot of games but Cole being one certainly helps. Cole’s ability to go deep into games will certainly help his chances of getting more decisions.

To rack up a lot of pitcher wins, Cole must go deep into games consistently and have his offense score him a lot of runs.

The Yankees scored 943 runs last season, the most in baseball. The team isn’t expected to lose much offensively other than shortstop Didi Gregorius and designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion. New York has more than solid replacements to fill those positions.

Cole won 20 games last season and now is getting a slight lineup upgrade. If he stays healthy, this one appears to be an easy over.

Gerrit Cole prop bets: over/under 280.5 regular season strikeouts

The Yankees just paid Cole the biggest contract by a pitcher in baseball history, so it’s safe to assume they won’t restrict his workload in the slightest in order to get their money’s worth.

Cole became an elite strikeout pitcher once the Houston Astros rescued him in a trade from the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2018.

The 29-year-old has averaged 301 regular-season strikeouts over the last two years in Houston in just 206 innings per season.

With everything the Astros have taught Cole over the last couple seasons, the Yankees should be able to reap the rewards with another Cy Young-caliber season on the horizon.

The dominating right-hander led baseball in strikeouts in 2019, so if anyone is going to reach 280.5 regular season strikeouts, it’s Cole.

Gerrit Cole prop bets: wins the AL Cy Young award (+400)

Cole put up one of the better seasons by a pitcher of this decade but yet did not win the AL Cy Young, losing out to teammate Justin Verlander instead.

If Cole puts up another season like he had in 2019, he’ll have an excellent chance to win the award in 2020.

The vote is done by human beings, who probably feel he deserves to win one sooner or later. In the NBA, LeBron James puts up monster numbers year after year and yet only has four MVP awards in his first 16 full seasons.

Voters and fans might want to see the new guy win it, and Cole looks ready for another huge season.

The only concern about Cole should be moving to a smaller home ballpark.

Cole’s home run rate could increase but Minute Maid Park in Houston was hitter-friendly as well. Cole is as likely as any pitcher to win the American League Cy Young award in 2020.
