NFL Week 1 – Divisional Odds

The opening week of the NFL season features nine divisional matchups that will all be played on Sunday Sept. 13, 2020.

NFL Week 1 Divisional MatchupsCleveland at Baltimore
Miami at New EnglandPhiladelphia at Washington
N.Y. Jets at BuffaloIndianapolis at Jacksonville
Chicago at DetroitArizona at San Francisco
Green Bay at MinnesotaTampa Bay at New Orleans

The one that all eyes will be on takes place in New Orleans between the Saints and Buccaneers. This NFC South battle features a pair of Hall of Fame quarterbacks in New Orleans' Drew Brees and Tampa Bay's Tom Brady, who will be making his Buccaneers' debut.

NFL betting odds for Week 1 feature New Orleans opening as a 4.5-point home favorite with a total of 49.5. Brady defeated Brees as a member of the Patriots in each of the last two matchups between these legendary signal-callers in 2013 and 2017.

NFL Week 1 Odds – Heavy Favorites

  • Houston at Kansas City (-10)
  • Cleveland at Baltimore (-8)
  • Indianapolis (-8.5) at Jacksonville
  • Arizona at San Francisco (-8)

The lone double-digit favorite among Week 1’s opening odds are the defending champion Chiefs, who opened as the favorite to repeat. That may offer up some value on the Texans, who led 21-0 after a quarter at Arrowhead in last year’s playoffs before being outscored 51-10 the rest of the way. Houston will have to prove it can hang on offense without top receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who was shipped off to Arizona.

Of the three other teams favored by more than a touchdown in Week 1, two had the league’s top regular-season record in 2019. The Ravens (-8.5), who open at home against the Browns and the 49ers (-8) host the Cardinals. The Colts (-8.5) are the heaviest road favorite on the season-opening slate due in part to the perception that the Jaguars will be the NFL’s worst team in 2020.

NFL Week 1 Odds – Road Favorites

NFL odds for Week 1 feature five road favorites, including the Eagles and the previously mentioned Colts laying seven points or more. Philadelphia travels to Washington, while Indianapolis heads south to Jacksonville.

In an anticipated battle of rookie quarterbacks in Cincinnati, top draft pick Joe Burrow leads the Bengals against the Chargers and their top selection, former Oregon signal-caller Justin Herbert. Los Angeles opened as an early 3.5-point favorite at Cincinnati, even though the Chargers lost three times last season as a road favorite.

NFL Week 1 Odds – Totals to Watch

Oddsmakers expect Week 1’s two highest-scoring games to come in prime time. The largest total (56.5) has been hung on Thursday night’s Texans/Chiefs game, which is no surprise considering Kansas City rallied from an early deficit to roll past Houston 51-31 at Arrowhead in the Divisional Playoff.

The only other total to open at 50 or over features the Rams opening SoFi Stadium against the Cowboys. The last three meetings between the teams have featured at least 52 points with the ‘over’ prevailing each time.

The Jets/Bills game features the lowest total (40). Last season’s two meetings featured 19 and 33 points, respectively.
