Live PGA Tour golf hasn't take place in some time due to the coronavirus pandemic but The Match Odds will give golf action this holiday weekend.

Capital One will be the main sponsor for the Charity of Champions event and $10 million will be donated to charities dealing with the Coronavirus.

The Sunshine State will host the event and even though Florida doesn't have legal sportsbooks sportshandle.com believes that could change in the near future.

Matchup breakdown

The first Match Skins Game between Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods took place in Thanksgiving 2018. The speculation was there would be a head-to-head match between these rivals for years, but a deal was struck two years ago. Famously, the event was supposed to be aired on pay-per-view, but major distribution problems led to the match being broadcast for free.

Mickelson ended up winning that original heads-up event despite being a significant underdog in The Match Odds. Woods never took the lead as ‘Lefty’ was either up one or the match was all square throughout its entirety, but the two golfers needed to proceed to extra holes to decide the winner.

They replayed 18 and were still square, so they moved to a 93-yard par three to determine the outcome. The 20th and 21st holes were even, but Mickelson got the upper hand and won on the 22nd hole.

There are a few tweaks being added to this event that will make things more interesting. The 5th hole will be a one-club hole where all four participants can only use one club. That is a par four hole, it will be interesting to see which stick each player pulls out of the bag.

Additionally, the first nine holes will be done in a best ball format, so Manning and Brady are unlikely to have much of an impact on that portion of the competition. The back nine will move to an alternate shot format, where the two signal callers will matter.

Which QB has the upper-hand?

Between the two quarterbacks, it appears that Manning is the better golfer. While he is a little older than Brady, he has had more time to practice since retiring from the NFL after the 2015 season. He is listed as having a 6.4 index, and he has been very reliable with 20 rounds where he shot between 78 and 88. Woods has extolled Manning’s golf game, noting how much he has improved over the last few years.

Meanwhile, Brady has an 8.1 index, and has been wildly inconsistent over his last 20 rounds. He has finished with a score as low as 82 and a total as high as 106, and that latter number definitely wouldn’t get it done. However, Luke Donald seems to like Brady’s chances, believing Brady is the bigger hitter and possesses the better short game.

Which Golfer has the advantage?

Mickelson is 49-years-old, and he has competed in five events this year. However, he has not played up to his standard, finishing just one of the five events he entered. Lefty finished in third place at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, but he missed the cut in each of the other tournaments, failing to shoot under par in each of his last four rounds.

Woods won the Zozo Championship back in October, and he secured a fourth-place finish at the Hero World Challenge in December. The greatest golfer of his generation has only taken part in two events this year though. Woods finished in the top ten at the Farmers Insurance Open before posting a +11 at The Genesis Invitational three months ago.

Who to bet?

It’s easy to see why Woods and Manning are favored in the Match Skins Game. But the right pick is Mickelson and Brady. Mickelson bested Woods before, and Brady may be able to get the edge on Manning. There are numerous other betting options for this Match Skins Game, so check them out at BetMGM!
